Cabo Roig

An Area Guide to Cabo Roig

Cabo Roig, which translates as ‘red cape’, is one of the string of urbanisations forming the Orihuela Costa region of the Province of Alicante in the southern Costa Blanca. Sitting between La Zenia to the north and Dehesa de Campoamor at the south, Cabo Roig occupies a headland which juts out into the Mediterranean, with beautiful sandy beaches to both the north and southern sides.  Cabo Roig is a favourite destination for tourists of all nationalities who are attracted by the abundance of nightlife and entertainment, as well as the beautiful sandy beaches and selection of water sports.

The main N332 coastal road splits the area into two distinct parts, with the main area of Cabo Roig on the beachside of the road and Lomas de Cabo Roig on the western side.  Cabo Roig is home to ‘The Strip’, a lively 600m stretch full of entertainment, bars, bistro’s, nightclubs as well as restaurants offering a wide selection of both casual and fine dining.  Behind the strip is situated the local medical centre which offers a walk-in service, free to use with your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). It’s also the location of the Thursday local market which runs year-round and offers everything form fresh fruit and vegetables to traditional Spanish art and crafts.

The popularity of ‘the strip’ means it can get very busy during the summer months but even during the low season, you’ll find the majority of the bars, restaurants and other facilities are still in full flow with a party atmosphere til late.

Things to Do in Cabo Roig

Two main golden sand beaches grace the Cabo Roig coastline, the Playa Cala Capitan and Playa de la Caleta, both of which carry Blue Flag credentials with beach bars and restaurants offering a delicious range of food and drink to enjoy whilst relaxing in the Costa Blanca sunshine.  At the eastern point of the headland sits an historic 16th century watchtower originally built to repel marauding pirates but, now restored, forms part of the Cabo Roig Restaurant and enjoys fabulous views across La Caleta and along the coastline to La Manga.  A wooden walkway forms part of the coastal promenade allowing you to walk or cycle along the seafront to neighbouring areas such as La Zenia, Playa Flamenca and Campoamor, offering a multitude of options in terms of bars, restaurants, with some lovely coves and beaches to explore along the way.

Cabo Roig is a centre for water sports and home to one of the best marina’s on the coastline with more than 200 mooring berths, a lovely restaurant and an extensive range of hire facilities.  Amongst other things, you can hire jet-ski’s, motor cruisers, paddle boards and water-ski equipment to either take out on your own or with qualified instructors. A day out on the water, whether wind or motor powered, is a truly fabulous way to spend time with friends and family.

Weather in Cabo Roig

Blessed with a climate that the World Health Organisation declare to be one of the very healthiest in the world, the area is noted as having ‘as near perfect an environment as it is possible to obtain’ – high praise indeed!  Year-round sunshine and low humidity are a perfect combination and with the Costa Blanca enjoying an average annual temperature of 19o, highs of 40o+ and more than 3000 hours of sunshine over 320+ days, few other regions can compete.  Water temperatures average 25o even in the autumn meaning you can take a dip in the Med well into late October whilst daytime temperatures often still reach well into the 20’s throughout December making this the perfect spot to escape the British winter!

Properties in Cabo Roig

The Cabo Roig property scene is an eclectic one with much of the original beachside development comprising large detached villas whilst the more cost-conscious are well served by an extensive selection of apartment developments and characterful townhouses.  New-build property is mainly to be found mainly in the Lomas de Cabo Roig area where numerous developments offer a selection of superb detached and semi-detached properties with private pools and sea views as well as fantastic, high specification gated apartment complex’s offering everything from indoor and outdoor heated pools to fully equipped gymnasiums with full spa facilities. Lomas de Cabo Roig offers some of the most impressive properties currently available, all within walking distance of the fabulous Orihuela Costa beaches, shopping centres and entertainment facilities.  Whilst both the famous La Zenia Boulevard and ‘The Strip’ are within easy walking distance, the recently opened Lomas de Cabo Roig Commercial Centre represents a huge investment in the area and reflects the high-end development plans for the area.  Cabo Roig really is a ‘must’ for the discerning buyer seeking property in one of the most sought-after areas of Spain.

Caroline & Ray

From the first telephone contact to the final purchase of our properties we cannot fault Matt Austin and his team.  From the very beginning we were reassured and advised by Jane who has been our phone contact until we arrived in Spain.  Jane is very personable and efficient and put us at ease with every step.

Matt contacted us before our visit to ascertain our exact needs and then arranged property visits accordingly ( a difficult task as we thought we wanted the North Costa Blanca but actually preferred the south!!).  Because of our change of plan a day after we arrived Matt had the difficult task of completely changing all our viewings and arranging more in the South, not that we are difficult!  At no time were we aware of the work this took as Matt was always helpful, professional and friendly.  His knowledge of the areas in all aspects whether it be legal assistance, services, restaurants, shopping, leisure activities etc was extensive and he spent a great deal of time with us away from the property search to help us get to know the area and allay any fears.

We bought a new build which was perfect and we revisited with Matt several times and he even introduced us to the builder.  We have also bought a holiday rental which is also perfect for our needs. Matt continues to work on our behalf whilst we are back in England keeping the plates spinning.  Our dealings with Matt and his team have been absolutely fantastic and we would highly recommend them.  We will be friends for life and can call on him for any help we need going forward.  First class.

I’ve been asked to write a short reference regarding my recent experiences with Homes Overseas with regard to recent purchase of my new Spanish Property

That’s easy:  “simply BRILLIANT”!

I would say I’d definitely 100% recommend them to others but it’s too late – I already have! & now two of my good friends are also lucky enough to be living their dream in Spain.

Their knowledge of the Market & Area’s they are operating in is without question second to none

Matt & his team work tirelessly on your behalf to take the stress away & make the whole experience memorable (with plenty of banter along the way!)

We met up with Matt on the Friday morning to start our property hunting. Our first impressions of Matt were that he was very friendly and so easy to get on with and he really listened to our needs. We spent the first day getting to know the area better in which we wished to buy which was essential for buying a property in the perfect location for us. Matt had lots of properties lined up for us to view and we found the perfect one on day two. Matt was very knowledgeable of the area, the properties he showed us and has helped us through every single step from putting in an offer to completion.

We cannot thank Matt enough for everything he has done for us. His cheerfulness, energy and enthusiasm for his job is second to none, What a thoroughly lovely man who we hope to spend more time with on our Spanish holidays.
