Campoamor
An Area Guide to Campoamor
Situated on the eastern Mediterranean coastline of the southern Costa Blanca, Campoamor is one of the Orihuela Costa’s most beautiful beach resorts, nestled between the busy tourist hub of Cabo Roig and the neighbouring Mil Palmeras to the south. Campoamor is a location of two halves with Dehesa de Campoamor occupying the beachside of the dissecting N332 national road, whilst Lomas de Campoamor sitting in a slightly elevated spot to the opposite side of the road, although still within a few minutes of the superb beaches.
Dehesa de Campoamor (which translates as Meadows of Campoamor) has a significantly higher Spanish population than many of the surrounding resorts and consequently enjoys a distinctly more Spanishy feel. Home to a trio of beautiful Blue Flag accredited beaches, Playa de Glea, Playa Diez Picos and the Cala de Campoamor, it is also host to the marina ‘Club Nautico Dehesa de Campoamor’ offering mooring facilities for upto 350 boats of upto 60m, as well as yachts and smaller leisure craft.
Things to Do in Campoamor
The main Playa de la Glea beach is a long, outstanding stretch of immaculate golden sand, served by a number of bars, restaurants and ‘chiringuitos’ or beach bars. Restaurant La Baraca sits at the end of the beach offering a wonderful spot for an afternoon drink or a spot of lunch, whilst the Los Angeles and Fishbowl restaurants offer a superb range of fine dining and beautiful views across the marina. For a little touch of luxury, you can visit the exclusive Las Colinas Beach Club which occupies a privileged spot overlooking the beach. Part of the Las Colinas Golf Resort, the club boasts a wonderful infinity pool offering idyllic views directly on to the Mediterranean Sea, a welcoming café bar and a superb sushi restaurant.
In the surrounding area you’ll also find a wide selection of bars and restaurants, with the La Fuente Commercial Centre a particular favourite. Built over three floors, you’ll find dozens of bars and restaurants all in one place and offering every imaginable culinary delight, from haute cuisine to fish’n’chips. Every possible taste is catered for, from traditional Spanish and Italian to English and French to Indian and Chinese, with every variation in between.
In Lomas de Campoamor (translated as Hills of Campoamor) you’ll find both the challenging 18 hole Las Ramblas Golf course and the Real Club de Golf Campoamor Resort which combines a superb par 72, 6,277 meter long course and 4* hotel and sports complex. As the area’s pre-eminent sports centres, Real Club de Golf Campoamor often plays host to leading European football and other clubs who come to avail themselves of the superb training facilities as well as the year round sunshine. The hotel restaurant is a renowned spot, offering an extensive menu and one of the best locations to enjoy spectacular views across the Costa Blanca and the Costa Calida to the Mar Menor and beyond.
Weather in Campoamor
Blessed with a climate that the World Health Organisation declare to be one of the very healthiest in the world, the area is noted as having ‘as near perfect an environment as it is possible to obtain’ – high praise indeed! Year-round sunshine and low humidity are a perfect combination and with the Costa Blanca enjoying an average annual temperature of 19o, highs of 40o+ and more than 3000 hours of sunshine over 320+ days, few other regions can compete. Water temperatures average 25o even in the autumn meaning you can take a dip in the Med well into late October whilst daytime temperatures often still reach well into the 20’s throughout December making this the perfect spot to escape the British winter!
