Orihuela Costa
An Area Guide to the Orihuela Costa
Stretching along 16 kilometres of coastline and reaching inland to the city of Orihuela, the Orihuela Costa encompasses some of the Costa Blanca’s most popular tourist destinations and Spain’s most sought-after property locations. The real hotspot of the Costa Blanca, Orihuela Costa is THE most popular stretch of the entire Costa Blanca, the reasons for which will be abundantly clear once you’ve spent a little time there.
The coastal stretch of Orihuela Costa is where you’ll find the resort towns offering spectacular beaches, championship golf courses, extensive year-round facilities and an unparalleled climate which combine to create the perfect destination. Following the Mediterranean coastline from the outskirts of Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa begins at Punta Prima, taking in Playa Flamenca, La Zenia, Cabo Roig, Dehesa de Campoamor and Mil Palmeras before reaching Torre de la Horredada which marks the limit of the Alicante region and the point at which you enter Murcia. Slightly inland, but still within a stones throw of the beaches, you’ll find a whole selection of desirable areas from which to choose – Villamartin with its famous plaza, Campoamor, Los Dolses, El Galan, La Zenia (home to the 161,000m2 shopping heaven of Zenia Boulevard), San Miguel de Salinas with it’s incredible views of the salt lakes, Lomas de Cabo Roig, Los Altos and so many more – whatever your wish list comprises, you are guaranteed to find your perfect match.
How to Get to the Orihuela Costa
Easily accessible and well served by flights from all of the major European airports, travelling down from Alicante airport takes only 45 minutes, whilst the new Corvera International Airport in Murcia is even closer at only 40 minutes drive from the centre of Orihuela Costa. And with UK flights starting from less than a tenner each way, a long weekend in the sun is often cheaper than catching a taxi into your local town centre.
Once you have been introduced to the Orihuela Costa, it quickly becomes apparent why it holds the crown as the most popular stretch of the Costa Blanca. Boasting beautiful Blue Flag beaches, bustling marinas and harbours, spectacular coastline, incredible night life, exciting water sports and (of course!) year-round sunshine, Orihuela Costa really does have something for everyone!
Weather in the Orihuela Costa
Not only has Orihuela Costa achieved the status as one of the worlds healthiest places in which to live, it also enjoys one of the best climates to be found anywhere in Europe. More than 320 days of sunshine and year-round average temperatures of 19o make this the perfect location, whether for second homes, short breaks or family holidays. Although summer temperatures often climb past 40o, due to the low humidity and cooling light breeze, even those highs are much more comfortable than you’d expect. Even winter temperatures rarely fall into single figures and you’re more likely to find yourself sunbathing on the beach with a sangria than wrapping up warm with a cocoa.
