Pilar De La Horadada
An Area Guide to Pilar De La Horadada
A little known Mediterranean gem, Pilar de la Horadada sits on the border of the Alicante and Murcia regions and lays claim to being the most southerly town on the Costa Blanca.
Having started its history as an important trading station in the Roman era, until recently Pilar de la Horadada, or simply ‘Pilar’ as it’s known, was a sleepy working Spanish town known primarily for its buoyant agriculture industry. More recently, significant inward investment over the last few years together with a growing expat community has made Pilar an increasingly popular choice for those looking for a more sedate lifestyle. With its idyllic location no more than a few kilometres inland from both the fabulous Costa Blanca beaches and the bustling entertainment centres of the region mean that it’s becoming a popular choice for second-home buyers and holidaymakers alike. If you’re looking for an authentic taste of Spanish life within easy reach of all of the larger tourist resorts, Pilar de la Horadada might just be the perfect place for you.
Things to Do in Pilar De La Horadada
The closest beaches are situated in Pilar’s sister town of Torre de la Horadada where the golden sands proudly bear Blue Flag accreditations and are lined by protected dunes, offering the perfect spot to sunbath and enjoy the warm, Mediterranean waters. The town itself radiates outwards from the main High Street of Calle Mayor which is lined with shops, bars and restaurants of every kind with a real multi-cultural café-culture and a bustling atmosphere. On Sundays and Fridays the town hosts an open market which sees people travel from around the region to browse the many stalls and try a friendly barter for anything from local food and flowers to crafts and local wines.
One of the regions most well respected and popular golf courses, Lo Romero, sits on the outskirts of the town on the main road leading to the beautiful area of Pinar de Campoverde. With a spectacular 18th island hole which teases the opportunity to finish with a flourish, this is a course which represents a superb challenge for golfers of all handicaps. Those keen to investigate the extensive range of alternative courses won’t be disappointed either with 33 in the Alicante region alone whilst if you step over the border into the Murcia region you’ll find a further 16 or more 18 hole courses crying out to be challenged.
Weather in Pilar De La Horadada
Blessed with a climate that the World Health Organisation declare to be one of the very healthiest in the world, the area is noted as having ‘as near perfect an environment as it is possible to obtain’ – high praise indeed! Year-round sunshine and low humidity are a perfect combination and with the Costa Blanca enjoying an average annual temperature of 19o, highs of 40o+ and more than 3000 hours of sunshine over 320+ days, few other regions can compete. Water temperatures average 25o even in the autumn meaning you can take a dip in the Med well into late October whilst daytime temperatures often still reach well into the 20’s throughout December making this the perfect spot to escape the British winter!

We are so happy to recommend Homes Overseas to anyone deciding to buy a property in Spain. Matt met us on our arrival in Torrevieja Costa Blanca and spent 3 days showing us properties and much of the surrounding areas. He was fantastic to deal with and very patient as we were initially unsure of exactly what we wanted. On our final afternoon with him we found our dream apartment.
Having paid the deposit, we returned to Ireland and Matt did the rest of the work, organising the lawyer who in turn was also great and made everything so easy for us, Nie numbers, Notary, Power of Attorney and Bank accounts were all sorted while we remained at home. The entire process took six weeks and we returned to Spain at the beginning of August to pick up our keys.
We are delighted with our new home in the sun and cannot thank Matt and Homes Overseas enough.

We’d been looking for a property in Spain for around 6 months but with no joy with other agents, we came into contact with Matt who suggested we went out to Spain to get a feel for the area (this was not something we were offered from other agents). We landed on a Friday morning and were greeted by Matt at the airport who gave us a tour of the local areas, beaches and tourist attractions which we had shown interest in. This was a very relaxed affair with no hard sales pitches. On the Saturday we started to look for our holiday home, at the 2nd property Matt struck gold and we loved it, we really didn’t need to look any further. Matt was the only agent to actually listen to what we wanted and delivered just that.
Matt is a thoughtful man who gave us the confidence to complete the sale within 4 weeks. Matt drove us to the bank, solicitor, notary and even looked after the children whilst we arranged the financials 4 weeks later. An excellent professional service delivered with excellence and precision.

Thank you Matt for helping us find our dream home and for making my dream of 30 years or more come to fruition.
I know I drowned you in emails, properties and texts but at no time did you complain. Every property we sent you, you did your research, obtained keys and shown us round all the properties we wanted to see.
You also shown us additional properties which you thought may suit our needs.
From the minute you picked us up, to our return journey to the airport, you never left our side. Nothing was too much trouble.
