Punta Prima

An Area Guide to Punta Prima

Punta Prima is the most northerly of the Orihuela Costa coastal urbanisations and comprises a number of smaller communities including La Florida, Los Almendros, Los Altos, Dream Hills and La Cenuelica.  Located only 5 minutes from the town of Torrevieja, Punta Prima is also only a few minutes’ drive from all of the beaches and facilities of the surrounding urbanisations such as La Zenia Boulevard.  The convenience of the location has made it a favourite destination for a broad mix of nationalities from all over the world and made it a sought after destination for holiday home buyers.

Things to Do in Punta Prima

The area itself incorporates plenty of leisure facilities, all within easy walking distance. These include the Punta Marina commercial centre with its landmark McDonalds, the Punta Prima ‘strip’ and the Zeniamar centre, all of which offer a wide selection of bars, restaurants and entertainment venues.  Beachside of the N332 coastal road you’ll find the Cala Piteras beach, overlooked by the infamous Nautilus Restaurant which has been a landmark in the area since 1975 and offers one of the best value menus around served in a beautiful waterfront setting.   This point marks the beginning of the Paseo Maritimo promenade, a cycling and pedestrian walkway which joins the neighbouring beachfront urbanisations and offers a wonderful beachside walk along the coastline.  A short walk down the promenade from Cala Piteras will bring you to the Playa de Punta Prima, 6550 m2 of pristine golden sands and clear blue Mediterranean waters well served by a tradition ‘chiringuito’ (beach bar) and the impressive Punta Prima Restaurant, one of the areas best situated and finest quality eatery.  A great place to stop for a spot of lunch as you wander down the coast, enjoying the spectacular views and beautiful Costa Blanca sunshine.

Weather in Punta Prima

Blessed with a climate that the World Health Organisation declare to be one of the very healthiest in the world, the area is noted as having ‘as near perfect an environment as it is possible to obtain’ – high praise indeed!  Year-round sunshine and low humidity are a perfect combination and with the Costa Blanca enjoying an average annual temperature of 19o, highs of 40o+ and more than 3000 hours of sunshine over 320+ days, few other regions can compete.  Water temperatures average 25o even in the autumn meaning you can take a dip in the Med well into late October whilst daytime temperatures often still reach well into the 20’s throughout December making this the perfect spot to escape the British winter!
