Villamartin

An Area Guide to Villamartin

The urbanization of Villamartin is one of the more established areas on the Costa Blanca South and is situated in Orihuela Costa at the southern end of the Alicante region. Famous for its world-class golf course and entertainment facilities, Villamartin ranks amongst the more prestigious municipalities and has been a favourite destination for both Spanish and international visitors for almost half a century.

A popular year-round destination situated just 4km from the Mediterranean coast, the community of Villamartin actually comprises a number of smaller urbanisations including Las Filipinas, El Presidente, Los Valencias, Villacosta, Montegolf, Eagles Nest, El Galan and Blue Lagoon.  Just 7 minutes away are an array of immaculate beaches which stretch from Punta Prima through La Zenia and Campoamor down past Cabo Roig and Mil Palmeras to Torre de la Horedada.

Things to Do in Villamartin

Boasting Blue Flag awards and golden sandy beaches which draw you down to the clear blue Med,  you’ll also find each well served by ‘chiringuitos’ (traditional Spanish beach bars) providing cold beers, fresh fish and a selection of delicious local tapas to savor whilst enjoying the average 19o temperatures and 320+ days of Costa Blanca sunshine.

An abundance of quality leisure and entertainment facilities combined with the proximity to those beautiful Blue Flag beaches makes Villamartin one of the best known and most popular of the Costa Blanca resorts.  The 18-hole championship golf course, from which the area gets its name, was designed by the American Bob Putman and inaugurated in 1972 and has since been graced by some of golfing’s greatest names including the late, great Sev Ballesteros, Sam Torrence, Ian Woosnam and Jose Maria Olazabal – winner of the Mediterranean Open which was held here in 1994.

The opening of the course was followed closely by the now infamous Villamartin Plaza in 1975.  Refurbished and modernised in 2001, Villamartin Plaza is home to some of the regions finest bars and eateries ranging from traditional Spanish fare through an eclectic blend of European gastronomy to suit any and every taste.

Weather in Villamartin

Blessed with a climate that the World Health Organisation declare to be one of the very healthiest in the world, the area is noted as having ‘as near perfect an environment as it is possible to obtain’ – high praise indeed!  Year-round sunshine and low humidity are a perfect combination and with the Costa Blanca enjoying an average annual temperature of 19o, highs of 40o+ and more than 3000 hours of sunshine over 320+ days, few other regions can compete.  Water temperatures average 25o even in the autumn meaning you can take a dip in the Med well into late October whilst daytime temperatures often still reach well into the 20’s throughout December making this the perfect spot to escape the British winter!

I cannot recommend Homes Overseas enough!  Matt worked tirelessly to find us our ideal property in Spain and it took a while as I am quite fussy!!  We now have a fantastic holiday home to enjoy.  Matt organised everything to do with the legal side of the purchase and has some great contacts to get things done!  He made us feel at ease throughout the whole process and kept us informed all the way through.  It was so easy with Matt’s help, of course!

Rob & Kate

I first approached ‘Homes Overseas’ in mid 2017 enquiring about a house Villamartin. I had a very informative conversation with Jane who explained the process of buying in Spain and how they worked as a company.

I decided at the time that we would wait until after Christmas to look again so we could raise some more funds, but things changed and after speaking with Jane again, booked a trip in mid November.

I was met at the airport by Matt who then took me to my hotel ready for the next day.

Matt picked me up in the morning and gave me a very comprehensive tour of the coast from los alcazares up to Punta Prima, showing me lots of lovely towns I never knew existed, this lasted the whole day. I can’t stress enough how much this helped in making my decision the following day, the places I thought I wanted to be turned out to be totally wrong.
